There is a delay in the release of the radiocarbon tests on the samples obtained from the Mannar mass grave, as there was insufficient DNA material in the 6th sample, the Office of Missing Persons (OMP) said this morning.
The OMP also added that further tests are being conducted on the same sample by Beta Analytics.
"Results of radiocarbon dating of 5 of the 6 samples from the mass grave site at the Sathosa building in Mannar have been received by the Judicial Medical Officer and submitted to the Mannar Magistrate," the OMP tweeted.
The samples were taken from the Mannar mass grave for radiocarbon test under the observation of the OMP and the Mannar Magistrate.
When the results of the radiocarbon tests were presented to the Mannar Magistrate earlier this week, many expected that the findings would be made accessible to the media on the same day.
Informed sources told Asian Mirror that it was not entirely clear as to when the findings would be made available to the public.
The radiocarbon test on the Mannar mass grave will reveal whether the grave is a recent one.
