President's Counsel Kalinga Indatissa was elected the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
He succeeded U.R. De Silva who held the top post of the BASL for a year.
Kaushalya Nawaratne was elected the Secretary of the BASL in the election that took place in polling stations across the country today.
The BASL is the largest representative body of lawyers in the country.
Indatissa had his early education at St. Mary’s College, Kegalle and at Royal College, Colombo.
After passing his A/L Examination he joined the Sri Lanka Law College in 1982 at a relatively young age of 17. At Law College, he excelled in academic studies and secured First Class Honours at the Preliminary and the Final Examination. During his career at Law College, he won the Roman-Dutch Law, Criminal Law and Law of Evidence prizes.
