Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa today launched a veiled attack on President Maithripala Sirisena over his inaction on the newly-constructed Hambantota government hospital.
"It’s sad that the Hambantota hospital which completed construction in 2014 is yet to be vested in the public. This was a project by then Health Min @MaithripalaS under @PresRajapaksa. Even as Head of State nothing has happened in the past 4 years & hope action will be taken soon." Rajapaksa tweeted this evening.
In 2014, however, Sirisena defected from the Rajapaksa government and went on to become the Common Candidate of the UNP-led alliance at the last Presidential election. Upon Sirisena's victory, Rajitha Senaratne was appointed the Health Minister who has served in the position for over 4 years, barring a brief period between October 26 and December 16, 2018.
Under the 51-day government, Chamal Rajapaksa functioned as the Minister of Health. Chamal Rajapaksa too is an elected representative from the Hambantota district.
