Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa observed that the government representatives went to Dubai seven times to arrest Udayanga Weeratunga, but not a single time to arrest underworld gangster Makandure Madush.
Weeratunga, a former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, is a cousin of Namal Rajapaksa. He is evading Police arrest over multiple investigations.
"The Government also should raise a red notice soon after incidents like the prison bus shooting and the shooting of IP Rangajeewa. Their stance is similar to what they did after the bond scam. This Government went to Dubai 7 times to arrest Udayanga Weeratunga but for Madhush not a single time," Rajapaksa tweeted.
"Why does this Government continue to maintain a silence stance on gathering credible information on Markadure Madhush? Nothing has been done so far to get more information on the diplomatic passport holder. Instead, they continue to spread false information to cover it up," Rajapaksa also said.
Makandure Madhush and his associates, who were arrested in Dubai last week, continue to remain in the Police custody in the Middle Eastern nation.
Udul Premaratne, a Sri Lankan lawyer, has visited Dubai seeking an opportunity to meet the Sri Lankan suspects kept in the Dubai Police custody.
However, it is learnt that the Dubai Police authorities have not allowed any external party to meet the Sri Lankan suspects facing serious criminal charges over consumption and possession of drugs.
