Speaker Karu Jayasuriya postponed announcing his final decision on the post of Opposition Leader in Parliament.
He said the final decision on the matter would be announced this week, after a consultation with party leader.
The Speaker said two legal issues have arisen with regard to the appointment of the Opposition Leader.
Although the appointment of the new opposition was debated for nearly two hours in the House, a consensus could not be reached on the matter.
However, UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera he had conveyed the official opinion of the coalition to the Speaker.
