Indian and Sri Lankan Navies Seize 500 kg of Crystal Meth

November 29, 2024

In a joint operation, the Indian Navy and the Sri Lankan Navy successfully seized 500 kg of crystal meth from two fishing boats in the Arabian Sea on Friday.

The operation was started after the Sri Lankan Navy provided intelligence indicating potential narcotics smuggling involving Sri Lankan-flagged fishing vessels. Acting swiftly, the Indian Navy mobilized aerial surveillance and intercept operations with continuous inputs from the Sri Lanka Navy and the Information Fusion Centre - Indian Ocean Region.

The operation identified two fishing boats, which had departed on November 24 and 25, carrying the narcotics. The boats were intercepted, and the drugs, along with the crew, were handed over to Sri Lankan authorities for further legal action.
