Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena tweeted his support to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the Liberal Democratic Party’s landslide victory in the country’s general election.

‘Heartfelt congratulations to Japan’s Prime Minister @AbeShinzo for his landslide victory in the country’s general elections,’ the President tweeted.

The Liberal Democratic Party secured at least 312 seats in the 465-seat lower house of Parliament, passing the 310-barrier for a two-thirds majority.

The victory boosts Abe's chances - as leader of the Liberal Democratic Party – of winning another three-year term next September to extend his premiership to 2021.
