An Indian athlete who was in Sri Lanka to attend the Inter Mercantile Athletics Championships was killed after he was hit by a train in Bambalapitiya today.

Police said the train had hit the 44-year-old man after he had disembarked from the tour bus to take photographs in Bambalapitiya.

Members of the Indian delegations had reportedly been on their way to a tea boutique to buy tea to take back with them when the accident occurred.

The body of the Indian athlete was taken to the Colombo National Hospital and is lying at the Hospital morgue, Police sources said.
