A garbage dump has collapsed over the Mahagiridamba area, on the Hatton - Sri Pada roa, the Police said. 

They added the garbage was piled in the Udamaluwa area due to reckless behavior of devotees visiting the Sri Pada premises. 

The military has been deployed to clear the garbage in the Mahagiridamba area. 

When contacted by us, military sources said over 40 soldiers had been deployed to attend to the matter. 

"It will take at least a few days to clear the garbage in the Mahagiridamba area," a senior Military officer said, adding the garbage dump has posed a serious threat to the environment.
