Former Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Professor Ananda Samarasekera who surrendered himself to the Colombo Magistrate Court this afternoon was released on bail a short while ago.
Professor Samarasekera, who conducted the initial postmortem on popular rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, was wanted for his alleged role in the cover up of evidence discovered during the postmortem.
The retired Chief JMO who was also wanted in relation to missing body parts of Wasim Thajudeen had filed a fundamental rights petition seeking an interim order preventing his arrest on the basis he was retired.
Havies rugby player Wasim Thajudeen was killed in the early hours of May 17, 2012 morning in what was purportedly a car crash - later, in 2015, the government announced Thajudeen was murdered and commenced investigations into the incident.
