Sri Lanka’s first prison facility built in line with international standards was opened today at Agunakolapessa in the Hambantota district today.
Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Minister D. M. Swaminathan declared open the facility today.
The facility has been dubbed the ‘super facility’ due to its luxury features including a swimming pool.
The facility, built at a cost of Rs. 4996 million, has been criticized widely as unnecessary for prisoners.
