Former Petroleum Industries Deputy Minister and former Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board Sarana Gunawardana was further remanded till October 30 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.
Gunawardana was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) of the Police on September 4 for the misuse of state property – he is alleged to have imported a luxury vehicle valued at over Rs. 8 million while serving as the Chairman of Development Lotteries Board.
The CCD further alleged that the former Deputy Minister has continued to serve on the Tender Board of the Development Lotteries Board after being elected to Parliament, in contravention of the Lotteries Board Act.
