The chief prelates of all four chapters, in a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, have urged to arrive at a speedy solution on the SAITM issue.
In the letter, the mahanayakes have said the issue has been dragging too long and it has made a debilitating impact on the health and education sectors.
The Mahanayakes have sent the letter to the President after their meetings with state university lecturers and parents of state medical students.
They have urged the government to resolve the issue based on the proposals presented to the government by state university deans.
The Mahanayakes have expressed the opinion that the government should discuss these proposal with all relevant stakeholders of the SAITM issue.
The final solution should be acceptable to all parties, the Mahanayakes said.
