Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he expected a fair decision from the judiciary over the arrest of MP Namal Rajapaksa and a few other Joint Opposition supporters in connection with the recent protest in Hambantota.
"Shivajilingam can defy court orders and hold demonstration in the North. But the same leniency does not apply to our MPs," the former President said, after visiting his son and other at the Tangalle prison, yesterday.
Those have been remanded over the recent protest in Hambantota are expected to be produced before court again, tomorrow.
"Among the arrested are a few mother and some children who are still studying in schools. Arrests of this nature did not take place even during the Premadasa presidency, " the former President added.
"Even the sky above Hambantota," he said, "will be sold to India. We will not have ownership over our own sky."
The former President said the government was taking quick measures to sell the country's assets to foreign parties.
