Tangalle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thushara Daluwatte has been transferred with immediate effect to the Matara Police division.
ASP Daluwatte is accused of assaulting a protestor in Hambantota on October 6.
On October 6 a group of protestors agitated outside the Indian Consulate in Hambantota against what they termed was the ‘selling of national assets’.
Those involved in the protest included Hambantota district MP Namal Rajapaksa and Joint Opposition MPs D.V. Upul, Arundika Fernando, Kumar Welgama, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Chamal Rajapaksa.
Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protestors and arrested 28 individuals.
