The Fort Magistrates’ Court this morning remanded until October 26 Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) Convener Lahiru Weerasekara and Inter-University Bhikku Front (IUBF) Convener Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera till October 25.

Lahiru Weerasekara and Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera were arrested this morning for violating court orders during a protest against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) yesterday (11).

At an earlier date (10), Police obtained an order preventing Lahiru Weerasekara and Tampitiye Sugathananda Thera from entering public property and causing damage to it during the protest scheduled for Oct 11.

Yesterday hundreds of students took to the street to protest against SAITM causing massive traffic in the Kollupitiya area that was only dispersed when Police use tear gas and water cannons against the protestors.
