Talks with Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva have failed and railway unions have decided to continue with the strike begun late last night (11), railway unions said.
The unannounced strike that was launched last night severely inconvenienced commuters and caused a tense situation at the Fort and Maradana Railway Stations.
A special Police team was deployed last night as the agitation escalated to violence as enraged commuters protested the arbitrary decision by railway guards and conductors.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has canceled all leave for bus drivers and conductors in a bid alleviate the troubles of the commuter.
