Social Empowerment and Welfare Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake has been notified to appear before the Supreme Court on October 25, on Contempt of Court charges.

Contempt of Court charges were filed against the Deputy Minister for a statement he made on August 2 that was considered injurious to judiciary and to lawyers.

Magalkande Sudantha Thera of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) filed the Contempt of Court charges against Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake.

The complaint was lodged against the Deputy Minister on August 22.
