Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, this morning, signed into the law the Municipal Council, Urban Council and Pradeshiya Sabha Amendment Bills.

The amendments to the Bills seek to change the composition of the local government bodies to better reflect the hybrid system envisaged as best for the electoral system.

Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Faiszer Mustapha presented the Bills to Parliament on Monday (9) and were passed with further amendments.

The three Amendment Bills, now passed into law, will be published in the Gazette in the upcoming week.
