Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratne Thera, who was arrested for inciting violence against Rohingya refugees on September 26, was released on bail a short while ago.

The Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratne Thera is among seven arrested for inciting violence against a group of 31 Rohingya refugees – mostly women and children.

A group led by the monk behaved in a threatening manner to the refugees who were being sheltered in a safe house in Mount Lavinia by the UNHCR.

The attack drew public ire with authorities calling for the arrest of those involved in behaving in a threatening manner to refugees in Sri Lanka.
