Traffic has been reported from the Town Hall area in Colombo due to a protest by local university students against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).

The students are calling for the abolishment of SAITM and for private education to be protected.

Earlier today the Colombo Magistrate’s Court issued an order preventing local university students from entering government buildings and causing damage to public property.

On June 21, local university students stormed the Health Ministry seeking an audience with Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Seneratne.

Over 90 students were injured in the resultant melee.
