The government has appointed a high-powered committee to finalise restructuring of the cash-strapped SriLankan Airlines.
The committee, chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, is comprised of several senior Cabinet Ministers namely Malik Samarawickrema, Kabir Hashim, Mangala Samaraweera, Sarath Amunugama and Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Senior state officials Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Ravindra Hevawitharana, Thilan Wijesinghe, Mano Thittawella, Roshen Perera and SLA Chairman Ajith Dias also serve as members of the committee.
The national carrier incurred a massive financial loss of Rs. 28 billion during the last financial year.
The committee will analyse and evaluate the current financial status of SLA and recommend measures to resurrect the state-run company which has become a massive financial burden on the Treasury.
