It has now been revealed that Sri Lanka Cricket Manager Asanka Gurusinha was instrumental in imposing a six-match ban on Sri lankan opener Danushka Gunathilake.
Gunathilake has been banned for several disciplinary offences including skipping an important practice session without a valid reason. He is also under fire for spending "too much time" in nightclubs along with one of his teammates, informed sources within the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said.
"Six charges were leveled against Gunathilake. But, they were not very serious ones. However, it is important to ensure discipline in the national team as Sri Lanka cricket is just coming out of a tough phase," the sources said.
The SLC, following an internal investigation conducted upon a request by Gurusinha, had instructed the Selections Committee not to consider Gunathilake for the ODI series against Pakistan.
Gunathilake's teammate too has been warned by the cricket authorities in Colombo before the team left for the tour against Pakistan.
