A board paper has been presented to the board of directors of the Sri Lanka airlines to pay a staggering 10 million bonus to its Chief Executive Officer Suren Ratwatte.
The paper has been turned down by the board of directors considering the current financial status of the state-run company.
The paper has been presented to the board after the company suffered a massive financial loss of Rs. 28 billion during the last financial year.
It was as twice as the financial loss the company incurred during the previous financial year.
SriLankan Chairman Ajith Dias had informed the board that the bonus should be paid based on terms and conditions in the contract signed between the airline and the CEO, when the latter was hired.
Ratwatte, an ex-pilot, is a brother of Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister Charitha Ratwatte.
