A fire broke out on the ground floor of the Crescat Shopping Mall due to welding work being done at a storeroom attached to the Keels Super.

Firefighters who were dispatched immediately succeeded in bringing the flame under control but extensive property damage was reported from the site.

Police have ruled out sabotage as cause for the flames and said the fire likely ignited due to welding work being done on the ground floor. 

Kollupitiya Police are investigating.
