Students attached to the Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee are currently protesting against the newly appointed Chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).

Last evening, Professor Colvin Gunaratne was announced the new Chairman of the SLMC.

He replaces Professor Carlo Fonseka who took over in 2012.

The Sri Lanka Medical Council is the apex statutory body tasked with protecting health care seekers by ensuring the maintenance of academic and professional standards of health care professionals.
