Sinhala Ravaya leader Akmeemana Dayaratne Thera and Ravindra Warnajith Perera, arrested for inciting violence against the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, were this evening remanded till October 9 by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate.

Akmeemana Dayaratne Thera and 40-year-old Ravindra Warnajith Perera – a resident of Gangodawila, Nugegoda – were arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) after they were questioned for over five hours this morning.

On September 26, a monk-led mob converged outside the safe house in which the Rohingya refugees – mostly women and children – were being housed, inciting the neighbourhood to storm the house and force the refugees out.
