The meritorious ceremony to plant a sapling of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at the premises of Saranath Dhamma Nikethana in Kalubowila, Dehiwala was held yesterday under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Saranath Dhamma Nikethana was founded by Ven. Elamaldeniye Sarananda Nayaka Thero in 2004. It is renowned for many religious, social and educational services.

The President who arrived in the temple engaged in religious activities before joining the ceremony.

The welcome speech was delivered by Ven. Elamaldeniye Sarananda Nayaka Thero while a special sermon was delivered by Ven. Prof. Naimbala Dhammadassi Nayaka Thero.

Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka also participated in this ceremony.
