Prevailing rainy conditions in the southwestern part of the country are expected to continue and cloudy skies can be expected over the most parts of the island, the Meteorology Department said.
Strong gusty winds of between 60-70kmph can be expected over surrounding sea areas of the island and fairly strong gusty winds of 40-50kmph can be expected over the island, particularly in the Northern, Northcentral, Northwestern, Uva and Central provinces and in Hambantota district, it said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and in the Jaffna district. Fairly heavy showers of between 75-100 mm can be expected at some places particularly in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Jaffna districts.
Meanwhile, one spill gate of the Kukuleganga Reservoir has been opened and residents downstream – in the areas of Agalawatta, Ingiriya, Bulathsinhala and Madurawela have been warned to be vigilant.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has also issued landslide warning to the Kalutara, Ratnapura and Nuwara-Eliya districts following rainfall exceeding 75mm the past 24 hours.
