Dr. J. A. Malwattage has been appointed Acting Medical Officer of the Welikada Prison Hospital, replacing Dr. N. Thenuwara who was transferred earlier this month.

The decision comes on the orders of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Seneratne.

On September 18, on the Health Minister advise, Dr. N. Thenuwara was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.

The decision was made taking into consideration the complaint from as many as 19 medical officers attached to the Welikada Prison Hospital that Dr. N. Thenuwara was giving preferential treatment to politicians in prison.
