Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe was arrested by the Police Special Inquiry Unit (SIU) today.

He was arrested after he was questioned at length by the Police SIU regarding his involvement in a murder in Kahawatte, in 2015. 

The former Senior DIG is alleged to have hidden facts pertaining to the incident in which former Deputy Minister of Energy Premalal Jayasekera was involved.

The former Senior DIG was arrested previously for harbouring the main suspect in the Vithya Sivaloganathan rape and murder in 2015.

He was released on bail on September 13.
