In a dramatic turn of events, Former UNP Parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera stormed into a UNP youth wing meeting in Ja-ela, chaired by former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, and lashed out at the organisers for sidelining him.
Perara's main allegation was that the organisers failed to give him a speech at the event, although he is the UNP organiser for the Ja-ela electorate.
The former Parliamentarian's criticism was directed at Karunanayake and UNP MP Kavinda Jayawardena, the two main organisers of the event.
After Perera's outburst, the organisers grudgingly agreed to give him a speech, but as he started the address, the microphones at the podium stopped working. Perera alleged it was a deliberate act to sabotage his speech.
Despite the 'breakdown' of the microphone, Perera continued his speech and censured the UNP youth wing organisers for sidelining the party seniors.
He also criticised the former Finance Minister over the latter's famous "i don't remember" excuse.
"You don't remember anything. If you continue to act like that. the party will go further down in this mire. I will teach you a good lesson," the ex-Parliamentarian, who failed to secure his seat at the last Parliamentary election, asserted.
While Perera was delivering his fiery speech, Karunanayake and jayawardena left the meeting, with some of their supporters.
