President Maithripala Sirisena met with the United States Under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon and the Nepali Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on the sidelines of the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today.
The two leaders had congratulations President Sirisena over Sri Lanka’s notable achievements in post-war reconciliation and peace building and had pledged their continued support to Sri Lanka in the years to come.
US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon had indicated his desire to visit Sri Lanka in November this year, while Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had promised the President he would support Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
President Sirisena is in New York to attend the 72nd United Nations General Assembly and is due back in Colombo on September 26.
The President appraised the UN General Assembly of Sri Lanka’s post-war progress and measures to alleviate poverty on Tuesday (September 19).
