A man who attempted to trespass into the Colombo residence of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was apprehended, last evening.
He was taken into custody by the former President's security officers and was later handed over to the Police.
The former President's security officers said the man had a knife in his possession.
He was identified as a resident of Balangoda. It is still not established whether he trespassed into the former President's residence with the intention of causing harm to the latter's life.
Further Police inquiries are underway.
