The World Bank yesterday commended the Sri Lanka Government on positive social indicators and said it was willing to engage more to mitigate climate related disasters concerning the region.
Executive Director of the World Bank for the constituency of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, S. Aparna, together with the World Bank’s Country Director for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Idah Z. Pswarayi-Riddihough, called on the Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera, yesterday (21), at the Ministry of Finance.
Executive Director Aparna commended the government on the positive social indicators displayed in the fields of health, education, literacy rate and life expectancy.
Discussions also focused on how the government could leverage resources to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and encouraged the government to integrate more with other nations in South Asia.
The World Bank representatives also conveyed they were eager to engage more with the Sri Lankan government to mitigate climate related disasters as it was a major challenge faced by the country in the recent past.
