The Power and Renewable Energy Ministry issued a final warning to protesting Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees asking them to return to work before noon tomorrow (21) or ‘face the consequences.’
The trade unions attached to the CEB have been on strike since September 13 making ten demands of the government including a change in salary scales and a 13% increase in salary for all grades.
Talks between the unions at the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy have failed and the protesting trade unions have vowed continuous strike action until their demands are met.
On September 15, the government requested all staff retired after September 1, 2014 to report to work on a voluntary basis.
Casual, temporary and staff on probation were also asked to report to work in order to continue with essential services.
