Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said the United States refused to issue Visa to him to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Fonseka, who led the Army during the final military assault on the LTTE, was initially included in the presidential delegation visiting the US to attend the UNGA sessions.
The former Army Commander had to step down from the delegation at the last moment as the US Embassy in Colombo refused to issue Visa to him over war crimes allegations.
Several human rights and civil organisations in the US have stressed the need for legal action against Fonseka and other military commanders involved in the final phase of war.
Fonseka had been denied Visa to the US on a few previous occasions as well.
