The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions said they would continue their strike as last evening's talks with the Power and Energy Minister failed.
They said, at the discussion, the government and the trade unions failed to arrive at an understanding.
Commenting on the talks, Power and Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the unions were striking for demands that are already met.
"There is no need for them to strike work. We have already formulated solutions to their problems," the Minister.
However, he added that the ministry would walk the extra mile to ensure that the public is not inconvenienced by the union action.
"We are not responsible for most of these issues. Some, we inherited from the previous government. Therefore, this trade union action is not justifiable," the Minister added.
