President Maithripala Sirisena said the Sri Lankan Army is recognised and appreciated locally as well as globally as it is a highly disciplined military force.
The President made this remark while extensing wishes to the Army-pioneered mock Exercise 'Cormorant Strike VIII - 2017’ at Kuchchaveli, Trincomalee.
This Exercise was commenced on 03rd September with the participation of 2,108 infantrymen and mechanized infantrymen, inclusive of 370 sailors and 197 airmen and, the Exercise, made up largely of Army Commandos and Special Forces has attracted a total of 69 foreign military service personnel, representing 13 countries, either as participants in the Operation or as observers.
The Exercise is aimed at enhancing preparation, operational readiness and efficiency of Special Operational Forces.
Meanwhile, President Sirisena watched the proceedings of the Exercise from his official residence through a multimedia network and interacted with the participants in the Exercise, this morning.
In his remarks, the President said this kind of exercises are important when moving forward with the new technical war strategies and techniques.
