A day after his removal from office, former Deputy Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs MP Arundika Fernando met with President Maithripala Sirisena for a clandestine meeting this morning.
Details of the meeting were kept a close secret but President’s Media Director Chaminda Sirimalwatte accompanied the former junior minister to the President’s office, after which, reports said Fernando departed with the President in his car to an official function.
The President yesterday, using Executive powers vested in Section 46. 3 (a) of the Constitution, removed Arundika Fernando from his portfolio for making statement supporting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
