The Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) investigating the Treasury bond issue has notified former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran to appear before the Commission on September 19.
Mahendran will be asked to give evidence before the Commission on the nexus between the Central Bank and former Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) Director Arjun Aloysius, who is Mahendran’s son-in-law.
PTL made an unprecedented profit of Rs. 5.1 billion for the year that ended in March 2016, an increase of 430% in profits in comparison to the previous year at the company while Arjuna Mahendran was at the helm of the Central Bank.
The PCoI, consisting Supreme Court Judges Kankanithanthri T. Chitrasiri, Prasanna Sujeewa Jayawardena and former Deputy Auditor General Kandasamy Velupillai, is currently hearing evidence from former PTL director Arjun Aloysius.
