The Eastern Provincial Council, this morning, voted to approve the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Accordingly, 24 members votes for, 8 voted against and one member abstained from voting.
With the Eastern Provincial Council’s decision 5 of the 9 provinces have voted on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
On earlier dates, the Northern, Uva and Southern Provincial Councils voted against the 20th Amendment to the Constitution while the North Central Provincial Council voted for.
The North Western, Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils are yet to vote on the amendment that seeks to hold all provincial council elections on one day.
