Leader of the House and Highways and Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella yesterday submitted a supplementary estimate of more than Rs. 20 billion to be spent on disaster relief.
He sought an additional allocation of Rs. 134 million to pay each parliamentarian Rs. 100,000 per month to maintain an office.
The 20 billion for disaster relief will be used for those affected by the drought, the floods, and the Meethotamulla tragedy.
The Rs. 134 million is to reimburse payments that have already been made in view of the parliamentary privilege that entitles each MP Rs. 100, 000 to maintain an office.
