Health Minister Sides With Pro-Choice Advocates: Says Abortion Should Be Allowed For Foetus With Lethal Congenital Anomalies

September 05, 2017

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne yesterday sided with pro-choice advocates to say that foetus with Lethal Congenital Anomalies should be terminated.

The Minister said allowing a foetus with Lethal Congenital Anomalies to live was a sin and should not be allowed.

Religious dignitaries meanwhile have come out strongly against the proposed move to legalise termination under special circumstance.

The government had proposed to legalise abortion in the case of impregnation through rape, and if the foetus is diagnosed with Lethal Congenital Anomalies.
