Amidst a string of lawsuits against key members of the former first family, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, wished President Maithripala Sirisena on the latter's birthday.
"Best wishes to President @MaithripalaS for a happy and healthy long life on this blessed day," Rajapaksa tweeted this morning.
Coincidentally, the 66th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, led by Sirisena, also takes place on the same day.
Sirisena is still the official party leader of Namal Rajapaksa, a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
However, the young Parliamentarian is at the forefront of the movement to form a separate party under the leadership of former President Rajapaksa.
The former President and his supporters, including Namal Rajapaksa, are likely to boycott the anniversary event of the party.
