The ban on select polythene products will come into effect today (1) Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) Professor Lal Mervin Dharmasiri said.

He said the ban would greatly contribute towards protecting the environment from harmful substances and also reduce solid waste degeneration problems.

Meanwhile, the Gazette banning the manufacture or use of polythene products of 20 microns or below was issued today (1).

The Gazette bans the manufacture, sale or use of food containers, plates, cups and spoons made out of expanded polystyrene.
