President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed electoral organizers to ensure that the 66th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is alcohol free, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said.
Addressing the media in Colombo this afternoon the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister said the planned anniversary celebrations would be the biggest event in Sri Lanka’s political history, even bigger than the preceding celebrations in Polonnaruwa and Kurunegala in 2016 and 2015.
The 66th anniversary of the SLFP will be celebrated on September 2 at the Campbell Park in Colombo. The 64th anniversary of the SLFP was held in Polonnaruwa with the participation of about 10,000 people and the 65th anniversary held in Kurunegala with the participation of a record number of people from the North and the East.
