The Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to decide public policy on generating electricity with Liquid Natural Gas has recommended the generation of electricity with LNG as a policy.

Accordingly, LNG power plants with a capacity of 1,000 MW will be established by 2019, the Cabinet of Ministers announced today.

Additionally, the government will work towards providing the relevant infrastructure for import and unload of LNG in Sri Lanka, the Cabinet of Ministers announced.
