Chairman of Selectors Sanath Jayasuriya and other members of the Cricket Selections Commission have tendered their letters of resignation to Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera, Asian Mirror reliably learns.
In his letter of resignation, Jayasuriya has listed several reasons for his decision to resign from the committee, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sources said.
The decision has been prompted by severe criticism directed at the Selections Committee over their recent decisions.
The situation worsened following Sri Lanka's humiliating defeat to Indian in the ongoing ODI series. Sri Lanka has already lost the series 3-0 and runs the risk of losing a direct place in the ICC World Cup 2019.
Over the past two years, the Selections Committee has fielded nearly 50 players to represent Sri Lanka in ODI matches.
Many commentators opined that was one reason why Sri Lanka could not achieve stability and consistency, after the retirement of several senior players.
