Southern Provincial Council Rejects 20th Amendment To The Constitution: Tense Situation Reported From SPC

The Southern Provincial Council (SPC) has rejected the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, which, among other things, seeks to have provincial council polls held on the same day across the island.

A tense situation was reported from the SPC when members clashed in disagreement with each other over the 20th Amendment to the Constitution and the Amendment was rejected, with twenty-seven voting against.

Meanwhile, the Uva Provincial Council, on August 24, also rejected the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Twelve voted against and five voted for the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
