The Southern Provincial Council (SPC) has rejected the 20^th Amendment to the Constitution, which, among other things, seeks to have provincial council polls held on the same day across the island.

A tense situation was reported from the SPC when members clashed in disagreement with each other over the 20^th Amendment to the Constitution and the Amendment was rejected, with twenty-seven voting against.

Meanwhile, the Uva Provincial Council, on August 24, also rejected the 20^th Amendment to the Constitution.

Twelve voted against and five voted for the 20^th Amendment to the Constitution.
